In winter 2026–2027, something truly unique is coming to Imatra as the SounDome ice instrument concerts move to a spectacular new setting in the park of Imatra State Hotel.
SounDome is an immersive concert experience where music is created using instruments carved from ice. A dome vaulted with snow and ice, the clear and delicate tones of ice, a winter evening, the dramatic scenery of the Imatrankoski rapids and the historic Imatra State Hotel rising beside it all combine to create an atmosphere that is hard to find anywhere else.
Every note of this 30-minute concert is created from ice and rings out for a fleeting moment, in this place alone, this winter.
The sound of ice instruments is clear and crystalline, at once familiar and mysterious. As you sit in the dim light of the dome and the music begins, everyday life is left outside for a little while.
SounDome is a reason to travel to the nationally renowned landscape of the Imatrankoski rapids.
This 30-minute concert is the perfect addition to a winter evening in Imatra. The Story of SounDome
SounDome is an annual showcase of craftsmanship created by Imatra-based ice artist and musician Juuso Partanen and SounDome ry. The event was first held in 2018 and has since attracted audiences every year to sold-out ice instrument concerts and to admire its ice sculptures.
The ice instruments and sculptures are designed, and the concerts organised, by SounDome ry, a cultural association based in Imatra. Behind every concert are hundreds of volunteer hours and years of experience in ice sculpting.
An important source of support for the event is the annual grant from the City of Imatra, which has made it possible for the event to develop and grow. Other key partners include Vuoksi Fishing Park and Freeski Ski Resort.

Make your winter evening in Imatra a truly unique experience. At a SounDome concert, music is created using instruments carved from ice, with the sounds resonating briefly inside a dome surrounded by snow and ice – a moment that exists only here.
The package includes tickets to the SounDome concert on your arrival date, a three-course dinner for two, and accommodation in your chosen room category at the historic Imatran Valtionhotelli.

SounDome is also available for private concerts.
Private concert €2,150
Including 13.5% VAT
On scheduled concert dates, you can also book a private concert at 19:30 for €1,800 (including VAT).
Private concerts must be booked at least two weeks before the concert date. The concert dome accommodates a maximum of 40 people.
You can also arrange a welcome drink or a hot beverage, as well as a meal for your group at the restaurant of Imatran Valtionhotelli.
